    JCB-IG3500E 3.4kW Inverter Generator Review

The JCB-IG3500E adds electric start and a 16A industrial socket to JCB's inverter range for £799. We look at whether the upgrade over the IG2000 is worth it.

    Key takeaways

    • Electric start and a second, heavier-duty socket lift this above the entry-level IG2000 - the natural pick for caravans and motorhomes.
    • At 3,200W continuous, the JCB-IG3500E comfortably covers a caravan's fridge, lighting circuit, TV and charging simultaneously, with enough headroom for a microwave or kettle on its own.
    • JCB quotes 19.5 hours from the 5-litre tank at 10% load - about 0.26 litres/hour, or roughly 40p/hour at £1.55/litre.
    • Against the JCB-IG2000 , the extra £250 buys electric start and a second socket for only 4kg more weight - worthwhile for most caravan users.

Electric start and a second, heavier-duty socket lift this above the entry-level IG2000 - the natural pick for caravans and motorhomes.

    ⚡ Quick Answer

The JCB-IG3500E delivers 3,400W max / 3,200W continuous pure sine wave power from a 149cc petrol engine, with electric start (plus recoil backup), a 13A and a 16A industrial socket, and a claimed 60 dB(A) at 25% load. At £799 and 22kg, it's the sweet spot for caravans, motorhomes and anyone who wants push-button starting without stepping up to the wheeled IG4200E.

    Who It's For

At 3,200W continuous, the JCB-IG3500E comfortably covers a caravan's fridge, lighting circuit, TV and charging simultaneously, with enough headroom for a microwave or kettle on its own. The second 16A industrial socket is the practical upgrade over the JCB-IG2000 - it lets you run a heavier load (site lighting, a compressor, a larger battery charger) through a properly rated industrial plug rather than sharing everything through one domestic 13A socket.

Electric start matters more than the spec sheet suggests: a cold, wet campsite morning with a recoil-only generator is exactly when you'll wish you'd paid the extra £250. The lithium-ion starter battery with recoil backup means you're not stranded if the battery is flat, either.

    ✅ Pros

    • Electric start with recoil backup
    • Two sockets - 13A domestic plus 16A industrial
    • 3,200W continuous covers most caravan set-ups
    • Only 4kg heavier than the base IG2000

    ❌ Cons

    • Same small 5L tank as the entry model despite higher consumption
    • No wheels - 22kg is carryable but not effortless
    • No 32A socket for heavier site tools (that's the IG4200E)

    Running Costs

JCB quotes 19.5 hours from the 5-litre tank at 10% load - about 0.26 litres/hour, or roughly 40p/hour at £1.55/litre. JCB hasn't published a 50% load runtime figure for this model; expect noticeably higher consumption under a real caravan load than the light-load figure suggests.

⚠ Outdoor use only. Never run a petrol generator in a tent, awning, garage or any enclosed space - carbon monoxide is invisible and odourless. See HSE guidance.

    How It Compares

Against the JCB-IG2000, the extra £250 buys electric start and a second socket for only 4kg more weight - worthwhile for most caravan users. Against the JCB-IG4200E, you're trading 800W of continuous output and wheels for £200 less. Outside the JCB range, Hyundai's HY3250SEi and HY3900Si sit in almost identical output territory - both, like JCB, are distributed by Genpower, so the comparison largely comes down to socket configuration and price on the day. Garden-Review Verdict

This is the model most caravan and motorhome buyers should actually look at first. The jump from the IG2000 is modest in weight and price but meaningful in usability - electric start alone justifies it for most people, and the second socket adds real flexibility.
