Who It's For

The IG2000 is priced and specced for the same audience as Honda's EU22i and Hyundai's smaller suitcase units: campers who want to run LED lighting, charge phones and laptops, and occasionally power a small fridge or a kettle - not all at once. At 18kg it's genuinely one-person portable, with a proper carry handle rather than needing a trolley. One 13A socket keeps things simple, but it also means no daisy-chaining two appliances through separate circuits the way the IG3500E's second industrial socket allows.

1,800W continuous is enough for a laptop, a compressor fridge and LED lighting simultaneously, with headroom to spare - but a 2,000-3,000W kettle will need the panel to itself, and a caravan's full 13A hook-up allowance (roughly 3,000W) is well beyond what this unit can sustain.

Running Costs

At JCB's own quoted 34.5 hours from a 5-litre tank at 10% load, that's roughly 0.145 litres/hour - around 22p/hour at £1.55/litre. Against its closest in-house sibling, the JCB-IG3500E costs £250 more but nearly doubles continuous output and adds electric start - worth it if you can stretch the budget. Garden-Review Verdict

The IG2000 does exactly what an entry-level inverter generator should: quiet, light, safe for electronics, and cheap enough to be an easy add to a camping or caravan kit. The single socket and recoil-only start are the two real compromises - reasonable at this price, but worth knowing before you buy rather than after.
