About Belt Drive Air Compressors
A belt drive layout decouples motor and pump speed, allowing the pump to run at 600–1200 RPM versus 2800+ RPM on direct-drive models. The result is lower wear, better airflow per kW and an easy belt replacement when service is due.
Most belt-drive compressors are floor-standing units with 50L–270L vertical or horizontal tanks, oil-lubricated cast-iron pumps and 2HP–5HP motors. Expect 7–25 CFM depending on size.
UK favourites include the SIP Airmate ISBD, Hyundai HY3050V, Clarke SE16C150 and Sealey SAC2503B. Three-phase models are available for industrial users.
