About Air Compressors for Nail Guns
Brad nailers and 18-gauge finish nailers typically use 0.3–0.5 CFM per shot, easily fed by a 6L pancake compressor. Second-fix 16- and 15-gauge finish nailers want 0.5–1.0 CFM. Framing nailers can demand 2.5–4 CFM at full bore.
For occasional DIY trim work, a quiet 9–12L oil-free portable compressor is perfect. For first-fix framing all day, step up to a 24–50L wheeled compressor with 4+ CFM.
Make sure the compressor delivers at least the nailer's required PSI (usually 60–120 PSI). Set the regulator to the nailer's recommended pressure to avoid over-driving fasteners.
