JCB Pro 18V Buying Guide 2026: Every Tool, Kit & Battery in the System Explained

JCB's Pro 18V range arrived with a bold claim - "benchmarked to be the best", two years in development -  and a clear target: the DeWalt/Makita/Bosch trade market, at prices closer to the mid-range. We covered the launch and have since reviewed individual tools; this guide is the system view - every tool, every kit, how the batteries work, and which combination actually makes sense for your money.

One question first, because trade buyers always ask it: this isn't badge-engineering by a random licensee. The System Logic: One Battery, Every Tool

Like every serious cordless platform, JCB 19V Pro Tools  is an ecosystem play: brushless motors throughout (JCB publishes its own technology explainer on why that matters - longer runtime, longer motor life, more torque per kilo), with Pro 5.0Ah and 2.0Ah lithium-ion packs and a 4.5A fast charger shared across the tools. Buy into the system once, then add bare tools as the jobs demand.

The battery decision in one paragraph: 2.0Ah packs are lighter and fine for drilling and driving in short bursts; 5.0Ah packs are what you want for sustained work and are non-negotiable for hungry tools like the angle grinder and impact wrenches. This is why the kit line-up below is really a battery decision wearing a tool costume 0 and why the solo drill's 2×5.0Ah bundle at £169.99 is such an anomaly. One caution: "18V" on the label doesn't make packs interchangeable across brands or even across older JCB-badged tool lines - treat compatibility as within the Pro system, and check before assuming anything older fits.

Compact Combi Drill 75Nm (JCB-18PCD-75-5) - £169.99 with 2× 5.0Ah

The system's entry point: brushless, 2-speed, 23+3 clutch positions, 13mm metal chuck, and 75Nm, plenty for first-fix, decking, kitchen fits and general site work in a compact body. Combi Drill 160Nm - the flagship driller

Impact Driver 230Nm

The combi drill's natural partner - 230Nm of rotational impact for screws, bolts and coach fixings that would stall a drill's clutch. Sold across three of the four kits; dedicated review to follow.

Angle Grinder 115mm

The tool that makes 5.0Ah batteries mandatory -  grinders eat amp-hours. Bundled with the compact drill in PKIT-4, and the reason that kit ships with a soft bag rather than the hard case (grinders and cases rarely get along). The Kits Compared: PKIT-1 vs 2 vs 3 vs 4

How to choose:

PKIT-3 for most trade buyers. The £20 step from PKIT-2 buys the 160Nm flagship drill in place of the 75Nm compact - the cheapest upgrade in the range and the reason PKIT-2 is hard to recommend unless you specifically want the lighter drill with big batteries. Check PKIT-3 price →
