About Zero Turn Lawn Mowers
Zero-turn mowers (often abbreviated ZTR) use two independent hydrostatic transmissions, each driving one rear wheel. Push one lap-bar forward and the other back and the mower spins on its own footprint — the famous 'zero turn radius'.
ZTRs are dramatically faster than steering-wheel ride-ons on lawns with lots of obstacles. Expect to mow about 30% more square metres per hour compared to an equivalent-deck garden tractor.
Consumer ZTRs from Cub Cadet, Husqvarna and Toro start around £4,500 in the UK. Commercial Scag, Ferris and Walker zero-turns built for groundskeepers run from £8,000 to £20,000+.
